I am interested in the ways that bias and motivation can affect our reasoning and memory to influence the judgments and decisions that we make. In school, I studied how these biases apply to real-world situations, such as political conflicts, hiring decisions, technology use, and legal decision-making. I explored not only how biases affect decision-making but how to help people overcome them in order to best communicate with others that don't share their views or experiences. My dissertation focused on the problem of "fake news" on social media, exploring ways to make warning tags on headlines more effective over time.
After completing my PhD and research internships at SurveyMonkey, PlayStation, and Google , I went into the tech field as a UX researcher. I worked on a live service mobile game at Scopely, doing both qualitative and quantitative user research on Star Trek Fleet Command. From there I transitioned into Product Management, as I found myself interested more in following up on research and how we balance user needs with business needs to create a successful product. After my time there, I went to Singularity 6 to lead the cross-functional Growth team, focused on developing our account platform for multiple game Palia, including building our account website, referral programs, game launcher, and customer support portal.
Now, I am back in the academic area, working at the California Digital Library as part of the UC Curation Center. I'm bringing my academic and industry experiences together to work as a product manager for Data Management Planning. My goal is to make open science practices easy, intuitive, and effective for both researchers and institutions, removing barriers and increasing functionality.
